The indonesiatoday.com - Coal producer PT Atlas Resources Tbk (ARII) said the impact of the Mahakam river closure on December 2011 sales could be significant. The collapse of theKutai Kartanegara bridge on November 26, 2011 had resulted in the closure of traffic by vessels along Mahakam river.
"The closure had prevented coal transportation from our Diva Kencana Borneo (DKB) concession area in the Kutai Barat Regency of East Kalimantan to the vessel loading point," the company said in a statement to thIndonesia Stock Exchange today.
For the time being, the relevant authorities are still investigating the cause of the collapse and traffic along the river remains closed to general public use.
"At this stage, coal production at DKB concession area is continuing and we have aour barge loading operations on standby in preparation for our planned shipments from the DKB concession area," it said.
"If our river logistic operations at the DKB concession area do not recommence prior to the second half of December 2012, the impact on our December 2011 sales could be significant." (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
